Somerset County Cricket Club, Wayfinding
After a substantial rebranding initiative at the club, Somerset County Cricket Club and its home ground, The Cooper Associate County Ground, seized the opportunity to revamp their visual identity. Undergoing a comprehensive overhaul, every aspect of the organisation fell under a unified design system, with a particular focus on enhancing the site's graphics. Central to this transformation was the refinement of the wayfinding system.
The initial phase of this endeavour centred on evaluating the map, a pivotal element present at every stage of the customer journey. From the website interface to ticket seating information and the signage encircling the field, the map served as an indispensable guide throughout the spectator's experience.

The redesign of the map involved a process of simplification; while the club initially adopted a streamlined view for their maps, while acceptable in digital formats, this approach resulted in a loss of legibility when translated into a physical signage scheme.
Our strategy aimed to centre the map around the pitch, utilizing concentric ringed elements to depict key features. By anchoring the design around this central point, we ensured that the map could be rotated to align with the user's orientation, facilitating easier navigation. As a result, users are presented with clear directional options, primarily limited to left or right, enhancing their ability to orient themselves within the space.

The rollout of the full wayfinding scheme was put on hold due to Covid and its knock effects to the sporting sector, so only a couple of large map-based signs were introduced.
