HMS Prince of Wales

Royal Navy, Placemaking

The Royal Navy maintains its vessels in ‘shipshape and Bristol fashion’. However, for non-navy personnel embarking, this may not always create the most captivating impression. Our task was to produce a mural onboard, celebrating British engineering and paying homage to the sponsor cities of HMS Prince of Wales: Liverpool and Bristol.

The graphic totalled 58m long, 2.4m high and contained almost 100 facts about the Ship or its two sponsor cities.

The internal wall highlighted the ship’s capabilities, featuring statistics about the complement of aircraft, the number of crew members onboard, and the vessel's range. Additionally, it seamlessly integrated facts about the sponsor cities of HMS Prince of Wales: Bristol and Liverpool.

The bulkhead wall detailed the engineering and technological achievements associated with the ship, outlining the main companies of the Aircraft Alliance and the specific locations in the UK where the sections or technologies were built or developed.
