HMS Prince of Wales
Royal Navy, Placemaking
The Royal Navy maintains its vessels in ‘shipshape and Bristol fashion’. However, for non-navy personnel embarking, this may not always create the most captivating impression. Our task was to produce a mural onboard, celebrating British engineering and paying homage to the sponsor cities of HMS Prince of Wales: Liverpool and Bristol.
The graphic totalled 58m long, 2.4m high and contained almost 100 facts about the Ship or its two sponsor cities.
The internal wall highlighted the ship’s capabilities, featuring statistics about the complement of aircraft, the number of crew members onboard, and the vessel's range. Additionally, it seamlessly integrated facts about the sponsor cities of HMS Prince of Wales: Bristol and Liverpool.
The bulkhead wall detailed the engineering and technological achievements associated with the ship, outlining the main companies of the Aircraft Alliance and the specific locations in the UK where the sections or technologies were built or developed.

A wall with engineering-themed graphics and text, including an illustration of an aircraft labeled "fuselage stress test" and technical diagrams. There is a map of the UK and various engineering structures depicted, along with a mounted fire hose reel and pipe. Green emergency exit signs are present.

Wall mural depicting military aircraft including F-35B Lightning and Merlin helicopters, with informational text and illustrations highlighting other capabilities. Includes directional arrows and graphics related to the military context.

Wall display depicting historical information about the River Mersey and its dockyards, with text and images highlighting shipbuilding and World War II involvement. Includes a red line marking the river's flow and descriptions of Liverpool's industrial growth.

Photo of a wall display featuring a historical image of a man petting a cat, with text noting 'Sir Winston Churchill petting the ship's cat while visiting the ship in 1941.' A green arrow sign is also visible.
